Hello, welcome to my first edition of the science and mass media effect. The goal of this blog is to inspire and spread the knowledge passed through many different types of mass-media such as documentaries and podcast. To share all of the big discoveries and breakthroughs in many different areas of science and how most people would not have any clue that they have accured. So I thought I would start this session talking a little about me and the fire that was lit in my heart on night after i saw a special on the Hubble telescope. I was working as an electrician supporting my wife and three kids life was good. I came home after a hard days work and popped the TV on the science channel. What i saw over the next two hours changed my life forever in the biggest way. The world of science and academia was poured onto my soul and ignited a fire that would never be put out! The special started out talking about how the Hubble was helping to start the discovery of dark matter. Just to think that there is matter that makes up 75 to 95 percent of all the known matter in the universe, its in you me everything, and we are just finding this out?? crazy! It cant be seen or measured but it alone keeps the galaxy's together and the universe accelerating. Then to the hunt for new worlds that is growing every day due to new technology like the Hubble and other space bound telescopes. Just like that I started gathering info into the local university and enrolled in the very next semester and the fire keeps growing every semester. Even though Ive been out of school for 10 yrs or so i have been able to keep a 3.6 GPA over the last six semesters, that goes to show if can do it anyone can. You just have to find what you love and go after it, and I would never have if it weren't for mass media. So like i said we will look at different sources of media like (astronomy cast,)http://www.astronomycast.com/ with (Frazier Cain and Dr Pamela Gay) a really breat site for taking a facts based journey through the cosmos or star talk( with Dr Neil De-Grass Tyson) and many other documentaries TV show and PBS specials etc... We will feature a new episode examining a new topic show or discovery that has been brought to the mass public through media every week. We welcome stories comment and questions and we will be putting links to many pod casts and shows and scientific institutions and professionals!
